BREAKDOWN

Techniques and competencies grouped around the central query: “What do you want?”

This includes Erickson’s Coach Position, the components of a coaching relationship, the fundamental coach mindset, and the detailed steps of Erickson’s Coaching Arrow. In Part 1, the emphasis is shifting from problem-oriented to Solution-Focused conversations.

At the end of this Part, you will be able to:

  • Speak to a clear definition of coaching
  • Quickly create trust, safety and rapport with another
  • Listen to others at a deep level; hearing more than just the words
  • Step in to a ‘coaching mindset,’ remaining present, objective and ‘trigger free’
  • Create questions that elicit the very best possible answers
  • Use coaching methods that are in alignment with discoveries from neuroscience
  • Utilize coaching techniques to tap into the potential of another individual
  • Harness the influence of vocal intonation to achieve the most significant effect
  • Perform a comprehensive coaching session from start to finish and produce outcomes

Skills and approaches organized around the core essential question: “How might you accomplish it?”

Part 2 has an additional focus on implementation and execution of the desired outcome. This part enhances the connection with strategic planning, prioritization, and efficient time management.

At the end of this Part, you will be able to:

  • Conduct a conversation that quickly prioritizes for immediate action
  • Structure and facilitate a first “discovery/intake” session
  • Adopt and uphold a long-term outlook for the ongoing coaching relationship
  • Use visual mapping tools to empower coaching conversations and creative thinking
  • Recognize your time management habits and learn how to use them
  • Ignite and re-ignite passion and long-term intrinsic motivation
  • Conduct a coaching session to create a project plan with built-in success contingencies
  • Notice blocks to creative thinking
  • Deal with your internal roadblocks to achieving your goals

Skills and approaches organized around the core essential question: “Why is this important to you?”

In Part 1 of the advanced course, we enhance our coaching by developing the skills to uncover the client unique motivational structures. We deepen our ability to handle and overcome objections. We also leverage the power of values in enabling commitment and follow through.

At the end of this Part, you will be able to:

  • Ask questions to identify the deeper, frequently unseen intrinsic motivators
  • Uncover and work effectively with hidden motivational patterns
  • Ask coaching questions that leverage the strengths of another
  • Develop your coaching presence and listening skills so you can become an expert at ‘coaching in the moment’, which is spontaneous and unplanned
  • Coach at the level of the ‘who’ the person is, not just at the level of their action and behaviour
  • Use provocative questions to challenge the client in to action
  • Utilize a variety of coaching power tools to quickly address objections

Skills and approaches organized around the core essential question: “How would you know you’ve achieved it?”

This part focuses on the various ways that people define success. We proceed through the completion process, testing skills and competencies where the subjects covered in each Part come together to complete the overall integrated Solution-Focused Coaching picture.

At the end of this Part, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an advanced level of the ICF Core Competencies
  • Work effectively with negative emotions and stress states
  • Apply approaches that develop resilience and inner strength
  • Identify and work effectively with belief and value systems that influence the coaching conversation
  • Use sophisticated intuitive questioning to respond to the client authentically in the present
